ICT 4 Life Support FAQ
• Why don't the Assessment features run in a VLE?: VLE implementation [07/10/2008]
When you run ICT 4 Life in a VLE, it runs in QuickStart mode - the same way it runs if you put it online. The QuickStart mode doesn’t run the assessment side of things as the assessment tools are basically a VLE – allowing work to be uploaded and assessed, so it should be redundant inside your normal VLE. It actually doesn’t work because it’s writing xml files across the network to track the data.
If you want to allow the teachers to mark and collate marks and reports using the system, you can set up a network version for them only. The work would thus be uploaded within your VLE, but assessed within the application. The restrictions you would then have would be that the pupils couldn’t self-assess, and the ‘Can I do this?’ activities won’t be tracked.
A solution some schools are adoptiing is to put the application on their VLE so that it can be accessed thus, but also set up a version on the network so that the self-assessment and object tracking can be done properly. |
