ICT 4 Life Support FAQ
• Moodle VLE Packaging intructions : VLE implementation [05/09/2008]
The ICT 4 Life does run on VLEs, but it does so as a single object. The assessment features (which replicate those of a VLE, so are redundant inthe environment) don't work, but the application does.
The following instructions certainly work on Moodle. They don't work on the RM Kaleidos VLE - look at the next post for those instructions. If they don't work on your VLE, please let us know via the forum and we'll endeavor to help. Outline of procedure ++++++++++++++++++++
You will:
A.) Perform an adminstrative installation of the ActiveTeach
- extracts the files required from the CD-ROM to a new folder.
B.) Extract the accompanying ZIP file into the 'ActiveTeach 1' directory
- overwrites older files and adds new files that are required.
C.) Execute the 1_Prepare_VLE.bat file.
- moves files according to online requirements.
- deletes files that are redundant in this VLE package.
D.) Zip the content of the ActiveTeach 1 directory
- create the uploadable package for your VLE.
A.) Administrative installation
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
To perform an administrative installation of the product:
1. Insert the CD into your CD drive.
2. If the disc auto-runs, cancel or quit any launched application.
3. Click the Start button, then select 'Run'.
4. Enter the text below and press Enter. (where D: is your CD drive)
msiexec /a D:\Setup.msi TARGETDIR="C:\VLE_FOLDER" /passive
(if installation fails, omit /passive and re-try)
5. Allow the installation to run to completion.
- this does NOT install the product to your computer,
rather it copies the required files without registering
the product - it also creates a new setup installer.
B.) Extract the ZIP file
++++++++++++++++++++
To extract the new files to the 'ActiveTeach 1' directory:
1. Copy the downloaded zip file (ICT4L_1_0_Stock.zip) into:
C:\VLE_FOLDER\ActiveTeach 1
2. Double click on the ICT4L_1_0_Stock.zip.
3. Either:
- select all files and drag them into the folder
C:\VLE_FOLDER\ActiveTeach 1 (confirm all file replacements)
OR
- Right-click on the ICT4L_1_0_Stock.zip file and use context menu option:
'Extract to here' or similar
e.g.
- WinZip > Extract to here
- 7zip > Extract here
- IZArc > Extract here
C.) Execute the batch (.bat) file
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
To execute the batch file:
1. Click the Start button, then select 'Run'.
2. Enter the text below (including quotes) and press Enter.
"C:\VLE_FOLDER\ActiveTeach 1\1_Prepare_VLE.bat"
3. The batch file should complete and then close its window.
D.) Zip the content of ActiveTeach 1
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
To create the new VLE package:
1. Open the folder:
C:\VLE_FOLDER\ActiveTeach 1
2. Right-click on a blank area of the folder
(i.e. white space, not selecting a file)
2. Select New > Compressed (zipped) Folder
(or use a utility to create a new ZIP file in this location)
3. Select the content of
C:\VLE_FOLDER\ActiveTeach 1
4. Drag the content (note - excluding the zip file itself)
onto the new zip file. This will add all of the content
to the zip file and may take some time to complete.
5. Name the zip file 'ICT4Life_ActiveBook1'
Upload this zip file to your VLE according to the
instructions supplied with your VLE system.
Once you have uploaded the package, you may safely delete the C:\VLE_FOLDER
