Site configuration

The site configuration section provides options for the overall layout and design, meta data and user registration settings for your Exintra-powered website.

Appearance

Choose the layout of your website by clicking on one of the displayed options. The layout you choose will be replicated throughout the site and can be changed at any time.

Header

This option enables you to change the header image of your website (which will be displayed throughout the site), assign a title to it and convert it to a hyperlink (e.g. to the site homepage). To avoid distortion, the size of your image should be 940px wide and 150px high.

Footer

To display text at the base of each on your pages you need to create a footer. Your footer can contain simple text such as copyright information or links to pages such as terms and conditions. You are able to create multiple fields within the footer that will be separated with vertical lines.

Meta data

Meta data are tags placed in the HTML header of site, providing information that is not clearly visible to users. They are for the sole use of search engine spiders to provide them with the information they require so that your site can be catalogued and presented to users searching for relevant information. It is important to note that the content contained on your website pages significantly influences where your website ranks on search engine listings: so although intelligent meta data is needed to assist search engine spiders finding your website, it will not necessarily mean it will improve your position.

Title

The title tag provides summarised information about your site and is what appears on a search engine's results page, your internet browser window header and tab and within the Microsoft windows taskbar.

Ideally title tags should be between 10-60 characters as search engine spiders tend to ignore the latter part.

Description

The description tag is used to show what information your website contains or describe what your website is about. Write short and clear sentences and aim to describe your website and services in less than 200 characters.

The meta description tag is also important for optimising your website for search engines. It is most important for the prospect visitor when looking at the search engine result page - this tag is often displayed there and helps you to distinguish your site from the others in the list.

Keywords

Lately, the meta keyword tag has become the least important tag for search engine spiders and especially Google. However, it is an easy way to reinforce your most important keywords. We recommend its usage as we believe that it may help the SEO process, especially if you follow the rules mentioned below.

The box should contain between 4 and 10 individual keywords, separated by commas and should correspond to the major search phrases you are targeting. Every word in this tag should also appear somewhere in the content of your page, or you might get penalised for irrelevance.

Registration Form

This option allows you to determine the information visitors to your site need to provide to create their own account. At a basic level this could simply be a username and password but for marketing purposes you may wish to gain additional data. You are able to determine whether fields are compulsory and the order that they appear in on the form.
